Blogging really isn’t as easy as the pros make it seem. Coming up with witty topics, writing effective prose, even finding the cute picture to go with the copy takes time. Honestly, it probably takes 30 minutes a day, and that is after we have the idea for the post. So, do you really have to blog every single day?
Actually, yes. Experts say you should blog as much as physically possible. So daily is a good goal and we do mean goal, after all, we know things come up in your business that will take you off track. But it is a goal we are working towards.
Here is a list of reasons to blog each and every day.
- Search engines re-index your website every time there is an update. Set up your blog right and you get daily updates and daily indexing which will drive improvements in rankings. Make sure your key words are in your blog posts. Google’s new Panda Algorithm update now rewards sites with the most recent updates, so blogging regularly helps you rank even more than in the past.
- Search engines are looking for content rich websites. Every time you add a new blog post, you add a new page on your website, showing the search engines your site is rich in content.
- Your prospects are looking for content. Think about your own feelings when you see a blog with sporadic postings. Be prolific.
- If your readers have subscribed via RSS or email notification, they get an update notice every time you blog. Blog daily and your prospects are reminded of your company every single day. Remember, they requested the notice, so they will not be annoyed or turned off to your business. They want the info.
- Tell stories, educate, inform, assist. If you provide valuable information, you will be helping your prospects know, like and trust you. This is required before they EVER consider doing business with you. The blog is a great way for your prospects to get to know you.
Here are a couple of tricks we use in our blog.
- Write down a long list of potential blog topics, just to get you started.
- Do tomorrow’s blog post today. This removes the time pressure, give you a chance to reread it later on. Taking a look at the post with a fresh set of eyes is helpful.
- Consider outsourcing the blogging. We provide a number of clients blogging services that take the pressure off, allow clients to focus on their businesses and gives them all the benefits above.
Remember, this is a goal. So even if you fall short and only blog four times a week, it is still better than once or twice a month. Push yourself to try and do it every day. In the end you will come out ahead.

This is fantastic. I’ve actually had a lot of trouble articulating when/how much to blog to small business owners.

I always thought posting every single day was overly-ambitious and the chief contributor to burnout as a blogger. It’s always easy to start off hot, but far harder to sustain momentum, especially if you are posting anything other than quickie articles. If you’re writing anything resembling an in-depth story, then writing every day is extremely difficult, particularly if you also have a job, a family, kids, and other responsibilities. I suspect that unless you are getting paid to write on a daily basis (a la Herb Caen), that the failure rate for daily posters is something approaching 99% of all bloggers.
