Vistage speaker and leadership expert Dr. Gustavo Grodnitzky shares:
The relationship between culture and communication…
- Culture influences behavior, and should trump strategy and personality in hiring.
- Communication – and in some cases, over-communication – is key to a great culture.
- CEOs should encourage their employees to give them feedback – whether good, bad, or neutral – and to take nothing personally.
Steps involved in changing corporate culture…
- Treat praise as a reward. By praising every behavior in the direction of the goal, you reinforce good behavior… this is especially true of Gen Y.
- Focus on creating a foundation of trust. This leads to teambuilding, direct communication, and employees owning what they say they are going to do.
Having a vision for your company…
- CEOs should relentlessly pursue feedback from within. This creates a model of openness and reinforces positive relationships with employees.
- Be willing to take risks and commit to a new direction, but understand that failure is a step in the process.
